How My Business Had My Back After My Car Accident

Let me tell you, when life decides to take a left turn, it doesn't send a warning. Back in July, I was stopped in traffic on the 5, along when—bam!—I got rear-ended by someone going 50mph. Not fun, not cute. And suddenly, I had no choice but to slow down and heal. As someone who thrives on the go-go-go, this was not the vibe.

But here's the thing: I built my business for moments just like this. I’m no stranger to healing—I’ve been doing it since my youth (shoutout to those injuries that have led me down a path of holistic health, wellness, and healing). So, I already had a game plan for getting back on my feet. And, while I took a breather, my business continued to thrive.

Building a Business That Supports You

My business is set up to run smoothly even when I’m out of commission. How? Because I planned for it! I’ve spent years organizing and optimizing things so that when life happens (and it will), my business doesn’t fall apart. Whether it’s automations, a solid team, or just the fact that I know how to delegate like a boss, I set myself up for success—even from the couch with an ice pack.

Here are a few ways I’ve structured my business to handle life’s curveballs:

1. Automation is My BFF

I don’t have time (or the patience) to be micromanaging every little thing—especially when I’m down for the count. That's why I’ve set up all the automated systems, from appointment bookings to client reminders to payment processing. These systems run like clockwork, whether I’m at my desk or laid up with Netflix post acupuncture sesh. So, even if I’m sidelined, my business keeps moving.

2. Delegating Like a Pro

If you’re still trying to do everything yourself, I’m going to need you to stop. Seriously. One of the best things I ever did was learn to delegate. My team is amazing, and I trust them to handle things when I can’t. From handling client needs to running day-to-day operations, I’ve got people in place who know what’s up. They get stuff done without me needing to hover. It’s called trust, and it’s a game-changer.

3. Client Communication on Lock

Even while I was recovering, my clients didn’t feel like they were left hanging. Why? Because I’ve set up systems to keep them in the loop without me having to personally write every single email or text. With a mix of automations, pre-scheduled emails, and personal messages that I can shoot off quickly, I make sure my clients always feel taken care of—even when I’m not fully hands-on. It’s all about staying connected without burning yourself out.

4. Self-Care is Part of the Business Plan

This one’s a biggie. I know, I know—self-care is such a buzzword these days. But seriously, I’ve structured my business so that I’m not running on fumes. Taking care of myself isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. If I’m not at my best, neither is my business. So, whether it’s scheduling downtime or making sure my work-life balance stays in check, self-care is part of the plan. And trust me, it pays off when you’re dealing with life’s unexpected twists and turns.

Don’t wait for life to knock you down to figure this stuff out. Build your systems, ask for help, and make sure your biz is there to hold you up when you need it most.
